What is my purpose?
It doesn’t come as surprise that this is one of the most considered questions, we as humans, have. And for good reason. We are here for something bigger than to get a job, get married, have a kid…… or are we???
To separate the Doing to the Being is a very big important separation when considering our purpose. The reason for this is one relates to our joy/happiness and abundance (Being) and the other will definitely shift and change over time (Doing – it’s inevitable). You could do all the things above and you may be blissfully happy, growing and expanding and being a beacon of love for your family, your community, your friends. Whilst also, you could be brokenhearted, burdened, stressed, unhappy and looking for ways to escape this mundane life.
Now, no judgement. It is what it is and one of the most powerful ways to get better is to get real. Radical honesty with where you are currently at, is an important step in finding anything that will uncover the joy, peace and love that is your birthright. We came here not to experience just the burden of the world but to experience the transcendence of fear to unconditional love. Actually, in many texts it confirms that you are in fact Love itself. So it’s really just finding your way back to your natural state.
What is Beingness? Well Eckhart Tolle in his book “Power of Now” talks allot about this. When you are living, there are three modalities to live in an awakened state. They are acceptance, enjoyment and enthusiasm. When you look at the day and the tasks within your day, you would apply these states. In acceptance, you accept the task that needs to be done e.g. driving, washing the dishes, cleaning up dog poop. In acceptance, it has moved from resistance (ahhh, see – it’s no longer causing you pain), to be something you accept. There is a non-attachment to it. If you enjoy something, you like to do it more and then for those things that light your fire, enthusiasm.
Here is the kicker – can you practice enthusiasm for those things you would label as “Unpleasant” and as you start practicing how you BE in your life, you see that it is a choice. You cannot control all things in life, though what you can control is your response to them. If you cannot be enthusiastic about it, can you enjoy it? If you cannot enjoy it, can you at least accept it?
In the end, it doesn’t matter what you do with your one life, that’s on you however, your state of being directly affects what you attract, what you represent, how people respond to you. You are like a magnet for what is within your being.
Don’t get confused you have a unique purpose to fulfil here, you are unique from every other human on this planet, and that is proven. You are here for your own purpose but that fastest way to find it, is to start looking at the signs that you are aligning to this uniqueness or to see if you are living as a result of all the things you have been told…. For real.
Contemplating these bigger questions today, and as I do I realise there is so much to be said for looking at our state of Being. It’s not always possible to live in enthusiasm all the time, but hey. If we can at least understand that it’s our approach, our attitude, our attention that creates it. Wow, that’s powerful.
